A Mission Born on a Mississippi Back Road

United by a mission to serve those who have served.
VETDD214 was not created because two men wanted to start a nonprofit.
It was created because two Veterans recognized that the blessings they had been given were never meant to be kept—they were meant to be shared.
One evening, founders Isaac King and Nathan King were driving the back roads of North Mississippi, reflecting on life and talking about how fortunate they had been.
They realized they had grown up with something many people never experience.
They were raised in the outdoors.
Family members, mentors, and friends taught them far more than how to hunt deer, call ducks, catch fish, or build a campfire. They taught them integrity, responsibility, hard work, respect, faith, and the importance of genuine relationships. The woods and waters became classrooms where character was built, friendships were formed, and a sense of purpose first took root.
As they grew older, both answered another calling—to serve something greater than themselves.
Nathan King enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard, proudly serving six years, including a deployment to Iraq from 2004–2005, where he served as a Sergeant.
Isaac King also answered the call to military service, serving alongside his brother, Wylie.
Military service gave both men honor, responsibility, and a brotherhood unlike anything they had ever experienced.
Like many Veterans, however, returning home brought a difficult transition.
For both Isaac and Nathan, the outdoors became the bridge between military life and civilian life.
They rediscovered something they thought had been lost.
The outdoors had become a place of healing.
It created conversations that might never happen anywhere else.
It reminded them that no one should carry life’s burdens alone.
During that drive down those Mississippi back roads, one simple question changed everything.
“What if we could give this same opportunity to someone else?”
That question still guides every decision we make and every life we hope to impact through VETDD214.
That question became the foundation of VETDD214.
Why We Exist
We believe the outdoors has a unique ability to break down barriers, encourage honest conversations, strengthen families, build lifelong friendships, and restore a sense of belonging.
That is why VETDD214 exists.
Not simply to organize hunting and fishing trips.
But to create opportunities where Veterans, Active Military Personnel, Gold Star Families, and First Responders can reconnect—with nature, with one another, and with themselves.
Through hunting, fishing, camping, conservation, family events, and outdoor fellowship, we strive to foster healing, encourage camaraderie, and remind every participant that they are valued, appreciated, and never alone.
Our Promise
Today, alongside an incredible Board of Directors, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners, we continue to build upon that original conversation.
Represents another opportunity to honor someone who has sacrificed for our nation or our communities.
We cannot erase the hardships people have faced.
Our Legacy
It is a brotherhood and sisterhood built on service, faith, and the outdoors.
What began as a conversation between an uncle and nephew on a Mississippi back road has become a lifelong commitment.
A commitment to honor those who have served by sharing the same blessings that shaped our own lives.
Because we believe the greatest blessings are never meant to be kept.
They are meant to be shared.
